Devens - The Hill

I guffawed at the reviews and warnings about the mosquitoes at this course. I grew up in a swamp 30 minutes away and played ultimate at Rogers field for decades. Thirstiest bugs I have ever encountered in my life. Can't think of any reason that I would be back. Some pros: decent signage, gives you a pretty good hike compared to other courses I've played recently, and there is a choice of two courses to play on the property.

Describe differences between two hole types better

A lot of garbage, bugs, and lost discs are seldom returned

Hills, hills, hills… sometimes you just want a flat shot!

BRING BUG SPRAY AND A LOT OF IT!!!! Will not be back. Horrible mosquitos!!!!!!!! I sprayed 4 times with deep woods and it didnt do anything. It is a fun and challenging course though. Forgot what hole it was but impossible to know which way to throw. We kinda just winged it.

EDIT: since the heavy rains a few weeks ago the mosquitos are OUT OF CONTROL. I’ve spent extensive time in swampy woods with bugs and these are by far the worst I’ve ever seen. Until standing water is dealt with, course is sprayed or bug season is over- STAY AWAY (rating had been 4 stars but the bugs recently have made it too miserable to play and I’ve changed my rating accordingly) Good, challenging course that’s decently well upkept. Be ready for a workout going up and down the hill (esp on the back 9). A couple spots that could use more clear marking.

Super fun shorter, technical course with lots of trees and elevation changes. Lots of ace runs out there!

Always a great place to practice shots you never thought you’d have to make

Arrows are in the basket so follow that direction. Wasn’t as confusing as I expected it to be I would say it’s well marked. Very hilly so be prepared. I just finished my first round here ever solo and I usually go pretty fast and it took me a little over 1.25 hrs. Definitely coming back.

Fun but difficult course. Some super tight fairways that reward only the right shots. Some holes could stand to be par 4s though

Beautiful course, tons of elevation. Lots of tough holes for a par 3 course

Signage kinda sucks for as many blind tee shot as there are. Super fun

Woodsy, challenging elevation

Poor design, constant elevation change but not in a good way, and a league that is not very welcoming.
